Wildly Flowering Finland: Kotipihlaja - Whitebeam or Rowan ( Sorbus aucuparia )

Torpan pihalla kukkii pihjaja. Jätin sen rauhaan, kun raivasin muuta risukkoa pois. On se kaunis kukkineen, mutta myös kaunis syksyllä kun kantaa marjojaan.
Pihjajanmarjoistakin saa tehtyä mehua ja hilloketta. Toivotaan, että päästään säilöntähommiin syksyllä.

On the cottage yard is flowering Rowan.  It is beautufull with white flower and the smell is strong. Rowan look like Bird cherry. In autumn hopefully we can harvest the berries to jelly and juice.
Rowans berries are often up and high. We have a Finnish proverb for situation when everything doesn't go ok; "Bitter, said a Fox about rowanberries"
Pihlaja also called "kettukarkki" ("fox candy") is a marmelade candy produced by Fazer. Fazer started producing the candy in 1895 at the conditory in Helsinki and it is the oldest candy produced by Fazer still on the market. The candy's recipe comes from Russia, where Karl Fazer took it with him when he returned to Finland after his studies. The candies are wrapped in a yellow-red paper with a picture of a fox. Thus the candy is also unofficially known as the "fox candy".
The candy originally contained Sorbus aucuparia berries.

Wildly Flowering Finland: Huopakeltano - Mouse-ear hawkweed ( Pilosella officinarum )

Taas uusia kukkijoita luonnossa. Muistuttaa kovasti voikukkaa, mutta jokin muu se kyllä on. 

Again new flowers flowering. I don't know it's name, even if it looks like Dandelion.

Wildly Flowering Finland: Metsätähti - Chickweed-wintergreen or Arctic starflower ( Trientalis europaea )

Kaunis, herkkä, hento ja yksinkertainen pikkuinen kukka, josta olen aina pitänyt.

Wildly Flowering Finland: Puolukka - Red Whortleberry ( Vaccinium vitis-idaea )

Kävin lähimetsässä katsomassa mustikoiden kukinnan onnistumista ja samalla huomasin jo puolukoidenkin aloittaneen kukintansa. Mustikoita tulee paljon, jos sää olosuhteet olisivat mustikalle suotuisat.
Puolukkakin kukkiin runsaasti ja pörriäisiä surraa niiden ympärillä. Nyt siis odotellaan yhden Suomen tärkeimmistä metsämarjoista onnistunutta satoa.


I was in woods to see blueberrie's unripe fruit and how they are managing springweathers sunshine and cold rainy days. Blueberries seems to me that we are getting a lot of berrien in July.
Now are also red whortleberries flowering with tiny light red flowers. We are waiting for a good harvest for these red berries too which are one of the most important product from forrests.

Wildly Flowering Finland: Tarhaomenapuu - Apple tree ( Malus domestica )

En muista olisiko milloinkaan vanhat omenapuut kukkineet näin runsaasti ja suurin kukin.

I don't remember if old appletrees has never ever flowered this much and big flowers.

Wildly Flowerig Finland: Tuomi - Bird cherry, hackberry ( Prunus padus )

Kauniiisti kukkii tuomi valkoisin kukin. Ei vain voi ottaa kukkia maljakkoon, sillä niiden hajusta saa helposti päänsäryn.

Beautifull white flowers. It is a pity that I cannot take these flowering twigs inside in a vase. Because the smell cause me a headache.

 

 

 

Wildly Flowering Finland: Voikukka - Common dandelion ( Taraxacum officinale )

Taas keltaisia kukkia - ihania ja iso riesa puutarhassa!
Voikukista tehtiin lapsena seppeleitä koristamaan kutreja ja isoja nauhoja kuin helmet. Lisäksi niistä sai myös ihanat kiemuraiset koristeet roikkumaan korvanlehtien päälle kuin korvakorut vetemällä pitkästä varresta suikaleita ja heti upottamalla ne kylmään veteen. Ei mennyt kuin hetki kun ne vetivät kiharalle.

Again yellow flowers! Dandelions!
As child we made of them wreaths on hair or like pearl necklaces. My little lamb was model this time when I tried to do one wreath.

 

Wildly Flowering Finland: Maahumala - Creeping charlie, Ground-ivy, or Gill-over-the-ground ( Glechoma hederacea )

Mökin pihanurmelle on levittäytyneenä tätä tosi matalaa ja luikertelevaa kaunislehtistä kasvia. Löysin sille nimenkin - maahumala. Se kukkii juuri nyt pienin sinisin kukin. Sen sanotaan olevan viljelykarkulainen alkujaan puutarhasta, joten se ei siis kuulu Suomen luontoon alunperin, mutta levittäytyneen jo luontoonkin.
Se on kyllä kaunis, joten aion antaa sen kasvaa rauhassa edelleenkin.

I found this creeping charles in my garden. In internet was told that it is a runaway from gardens for long time ago. Now it is flowering with little blue flowers. I will keep it and let it grow in peace in future.

Wildly Flowering Finland: Kielo - Lily of the valley ( Convallaria majalis )

Voin ihan tuntea voimakkaan ja ihanan kielojen tuoksun jo pelkästä kuvasta. Tämä vuonna kielot kukkivat jo melko varhain keväällä. Yleensä lapsena niitä kerättiin koulun viimeisenä päivänä ja vietiin opettajalle lahjaksi. Kielo on nyt rauhoitettu, joten sitä ei saa häiritä millään lailla. Lisäksihän kielo on myrkyllinen niin lehdet, kukat, varsi kuin punaiset marjatkin.

I can smell the strong scent of the lily of the valley. This spring the plant is flowering very early. In may almost every spring in my childhood we gathered lily of the valleys to the teacher in the last schoolday  before summer holidays. Nowadays lily of the valley is protected by law. All parts of the plant are highly poisonous, including the red berries. 


 
 

Wildly Flowering Finland: Ketunleipä - Wood sorrel ( Oxalis acetosella )

Kuusimetsän siimeksessä kukkivat jo ketunleivät. Lapsena niitä aina maisteltiin hapokkuutensa vuoksi. Kauniita ja herkkiä kukkia. Ellei ihan läheltä katso, niin ei huomaa kukan sisällä olevia violetinpunaisia raitoja.

Again new flowers are flowering in woods. As child we often ate these wood sorrel´s leaves for the sour taste.
To see the pink stripes inside the flowers you need to look very carefully.
